Letter from Conference Organizers regarding the 2020 IPLFC

Dear Public Library Friends,

First and foremost, we hope that you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy during these unprecedented times.

Just as all of you are making decisions about upcoming events and gatherings, we have made the sad but appropriate decision to cancel the in-person conference that was scheduled for June 14-16 in Austin, Texas.

At the same time, we also recognize how important it is to connect with one another and share, which is at the heart of this library support network we have formed – through both the International Public Library Fundraising Conference and Library Giving Day.

The IPLFC Planning Team is now pivoting to consider all available options for a virtual conference. We have received some fantastic speaker proposals and are excited to work with presenters and sponsors to ensure this information gets delivered – in a different way. (It’s not too late to submit a proposal at https://iplf-conference.org/become-speaker/.)

And, we are so pleased to say that Austin Public Library Friends Foundation has generously offered to host an in-person conference in 2021! Dates are not yet set for either meeting, but that will be coming soon.

Thanks to all of you who have registered. The $75 registration fee will be used toward the virtual conference. We are a low-overhead/shoestring operation, and I hope you will consider the payment as a small contribution toward the survival of our library support network. If this is creating hardship, please reach out to us.

We love what we are witnessing during this unprecedented time — the spirit of collaboration and the sharing of fundraising and philanthropic knowledge. It has always been and must continue to be our priority.

Closing libraries are an inconvenience for some but a loss of a lifeline for others, which makes your work to support your library more important today than ever before. Let’s work together to support the needs of our communities, especially those hit hardest. We must look out for each other and those we serve.

Sincerely,

Tim Staley, Jonna Ward, and the IPLFC Planning Team
